My capstone experience encapsulates much of what the Global Medallion program encourages: enhancing global awareness, perspective, and engagement. My capstone project consisted of a publication that described how to accomplish a nonprofit in a second or third-world country. Specifically in our field, increasing radiology capacity in a third-world country is difficult as shipping ultrasound machines, making valuable and reliable connections, and planning a safe travel itinerary is not as reliable as what we generally experience in a first-world country. My publication in the Journal of Global Radiology has proven that my work in Haiti does not go unnoticed. Continuing my work in other second and third-world countries can be accomplished by my publication and it sets a stepping stone for others who would like to focus their nonprofit efforts in less accessible and less privileged countries.
