What I’ve Learned
Intercultural / Interracial Communication

Through this course, I learned the importance of communication in different cultures. The significance of hand gestures, honorifics, or even greetings can greatly determine the outcomes of friendships, business deals, and foreign relations. I met classmates from regions of the world whose cultures were unknown and uncharted to me and learned the beauties of their culture. I also learned the importance of my own cultures and felt as though my culture was finally being acknowledged and appreciated by my classmates.
Introduction to Religion
Through this course, I learned about the different religions around the world. Watching videos, interacting with virtual models of churches and synagogues, and researching the importance behind regions of the world has all helped me understand what can motivate people to live their lives the way that they do. I learned to question religion while also respecting the opinions and beliefs of each religion. As someone who was not raised religiously, this course has taught me that religion has its negatives as well as its positives and we must be understanding of each religion we encounter.
World Regional Geography
This course provided an introductory overview of world regions from a geographical perspective. I learned about the rich heritage regarding geography and how the people and places in different regions are all connected. The main importance of this course was to understand the role of globalization in relation to passing of knowledge, cultures, and politics. This course also taught me the origins of humans, where they migrated, and how cultures diverged or remained from the beginning.
Communication in Film
This course investigated the birth of film and how the film industry changed throughout time. The different film genres were studied for how they are produced and why the message was stated. This course also taught me about the communication involved in these films and how films influenced a country's ability to become popularized- as we are seeing with South Korea at the moment. I learned about how films influenced or even manipulated their audience during certain eras.
